App Update: Table Mountain NP popular routes return

Updated: Nov 2

With the latest update, we've made some useful features more accessible and brought back popular routes from the Mother City.

Before we get into the update, just a reminder to our Apple users to please update to iOS 12 and up to continue receiving the latest updates, features and improvements. The app is incompatible with earlier versions of iOS as discussed here.

Here's what's new in this update (July 12th, 2020), version 1.4.21:

  1. Easy to use Info and Layers buttons

Info and Layer button in new, convenient positions.

We're realised that some of the most useful features were being missed, mostly due to the placement of the buttons. This is why we've moved the Info and Layers button to the bottom corners of the interface.

The Info button includes map details, legend and bookmarks. Bookmarks are highlighted areas that you can zoom in on for a closer look including parking areas, toilets, peaks etc. The info tab, beyond a description, opening hours and permit information, also includes a Google Maps link to the reserve entrance to make it easier for you to navigate to your next hike.

The Layers button opens up all the features that you can toggle on and off. A feature we find most useful is 'Dog Walking' and 'Mountain Biking' trails. Over time we will also be adding in Recommended Routes - paths highlighted in orange that will light the way on great paths to take.

2. Table Mountain NP curated maps return

Cape Town maps back in the app.

With our previous update focusing on reserves rather than routes, we took out the curated maps of popular routes around Table Mountain NP. Some avid users however got in touch with us and asked where they had gone (and fair enough too!). So we've re-integrated them back into the app. There over 30 routes to chose from which can be found by accessing the Filter and selecting 'Cape Town'.

3. Featured by Forge

A new tab on the Filter page where we highlight a specific hike or reserve.

As this update shows, user feedback is really helpful for both us and you, the user. In that spirit, remember we are running our Lite-est Competition till the end of July, where you stand a chance to win a case of Devil's Peak Lite Lager by rating and reviewing the app on your app store. Find all the competition details and Ts & Cs here.

Be sure to get the free Forge App on your mobile and download our offline Explore More maps to take with you onto the mountain, then share the stoke using #IAMFORGE.
